Help shape plans for important electricity network upgrades in west Gwynedd
People are being encouraged to have their say on important upgrades to the electricity network near Bryncir in west Gwynedd. The upgrades form part of work to connect Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station and wind farms in Ireland. This will make sure that new, low carbon power is able to get to homes and businesses in the local area and across Wales and England.
National Grid is asking for comments on a proposed new substation south of Bryncir, a replacement pylon on the existing line and joining the local electricity network to the substation using underground wires and a wood pole line.
Using public feedback from previous consultations and the results of its own studies, it has developed proposals that aim to keep any effects as low as possible on communities, wildlife and local transport. A consultation is open from 30 March to 27 April 2017 and National Grid is seeking people’s views on its proposals to see if there are ways to reduce effects even further.
Gareth Williams, Senior Project Manager, said:
“Our upgrades to the network in west Gwynedd are vital in making sure that electricity can get to those who need it. We’ve worked really hard to make sure our proposals keep effects low for local people and the landscape and now want to hear what people think.
“Their feedback will help us to see if there are ways we can reduce any possible effects further as we develop our final plans. We’ve had really useful feedback on our proposals in recent years and we hope people continue to get involved and help shape these important upgrades.
“We’re holding two events during the consultation and are keen for as many people as possible to come along to ask any questions they may have. There’s also lots more information on our website and at reference locations in the local area.”
Events are being held at Tilestop Car Park, Bryncir, LL51 9LX on:
- Saturday 8 April 2017, 10am-1pm
- Wednesday 12 April 2017, 10am-1pm
